Brummana High School is currently facing an extreme financial crisis, as are all people living and working in Lebanon. The devaluation of the currency has dramatically inflated prices for local and imported goods and services. Brummana High School staff are also facing difficulties, and in recognition of their hard work and devotion, the Governing Body of Brummana High School has awarded all staff a bonus, for 2020-2021, and an increase in salary of 30% to take effect from the start of 2021-2022 academic year.
With increased costs of goods, services and staff, the school is struggling to meet its financial obligations and it is clear that tuition fees cannot remain at the current level. The school’s operation can only be financed by an increase in tuition fees for the 2021-2022 academic year. The Governing Body has therefore approved a provisional rise of 40% in tuition fees for 2021-2022, subject to review in September 2021 in the light of the situation at that time and the approval of the Parents’ Association in January 2022 as per the relevant laws. This will partially cover the increased cost of goods and services and staff salaries. If the aim were to fully cover the increased costs, the increase would be much higher.
I know that this will not be welcome news to parents but in order that the school survives, and that our hard working staff are partially compensated for the loss in their income, we have no option but to apply this rise in tuition fees. The school is working hard to fund-raise for financial aid in order to assist families who will face hardship as a result of the increased tuition fees. Those parents who face difficulties should speak to the Bursar (email@example.com) to see if they are eligible for financial aid.
The invoice for the first payment for 2021/22 is a payment on account (to be paid before 1 September 2021). The invoice and your tuition fee statement are available on the Parent Information System on the school website http://mis.bhs.edu.lb/bhsserver/portal. If your child/ren will not be using the bus, please inform the Bus Co-ordinator in writing at firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday, 6 August 2021. After this date the registration will be forfeit.
Fees for the academic year 2021/22 are detailed here. The tuition fees listed are subject to change. Please note that the tuition fees include the cost of two steps on account of law 46/2017. The issue of any remaining steps is still being debated nationally and we await clarification of the law for private schools.
