The school is very pleased to announce summary news on the achievement of the BHS Gives campaign held at the beginning of December. Thanks to the generosity of so many in our community – parents, old scholars, staff, governors, ex-staff members, Quakers in the UK and right around the world, friends of the school and even students – since the beginning of August the school has raised over $130,000 in total in Lebanon, the UK and the US. Over 170 donors chose to provide financial support to the school, to assist school families struggling to meet tuition fees, either due to the August 4th Beirut explosion or the ongoing, crippling economic crisis in the country. Generous donors also gave to the Capital Fund to provide assistance to the school maintaining and updating programmes and facilities. Over the ten or so days of the BHS Gives period, the goal of $50,000 was exceeded thanks to the wonderful support of our community. The Beirut Fund attracted over $70,000 in total, with this emergency fund, established after the blast, providing tuition fee support to those families affected losing either their homes or businesses. No doubt more fundraising will be required to support school families and the school over the foreseeable future due to the economic crisis and other challenges in Lebanon. Brummana High School would like thank all those who have been able to support during these desperate times, either by donating financial assistance or those who helped raise awareness amongst their communities right around the world.
