“Helping kids learn and maintain healthy lifestyle habits”

At the Infant Section, the teachers have launched the Fruity Friday event initiative, which is targeted at children and their families to raise awareness and learn more about the importance of including fruits in their diet.

The idea is to encourage healthy eating habits in children via different teaching interactions. The students learn about the nutritional value of fruits, they taste them (with great enjoyment) and they learn how to make them look more appealing.

Fruity Friday happens on the last Friday of each month, and consists on choosing a specific type of fruit that goes along with the season or a certain theme. On this day, each child is encouraged to bring in fruits as part of their snacks and share them with his classmates.

Despite the Covid-19 lockdown situation, the Infant Section teachers were able to carry on with the Fruity Friday event online to keep the children engaged and interactive, all the while keeping this important awareness programme running.

On the last Fruity Friday of the year, the Infant Section teachers initiated an idea of making a “Banana Shake” during the online session. With the help of the parents, the students enthusiastically participated and shared pictures and videos preparing their shakes.

I would like to thank all teachers and parents for supporting us and making this awareness programme a success. There has been an increased intake of fruits in classrooms and at home, even on days other than Fridays.
